Low self-esteem is something that may not be very noticeable in some occasions. The fact that overcompensation is an indicator of it is proof that it may be a silent problem sometimes. Of all your excellent advice I think the most important one is to stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone is different, lives under different circumstances, so don’t worry! You are amazing they way you are and if you think there is room for improvement, go for it! You are your boss!

      Hi Mike,

Your comment is on target. No one can do a better job of being you than yourself. This seem like an obvious truth, but even the smartest people can take years to understand the lesson. Though I originally wrote the post to help people cope with the negative feelings brought by chronic pain, your remarks are relevant to everyone.
