The Good… 

This product really stands out from the competition in a number of ways. Specifically,  it has many viewing positions. Which means there are a lot of ways you can read a book without risking pain from bad posture

  • The page holders are strong but thin and will not block the text as you read.

No book stand is perfect, and The Best BookStand Ergonomic is no exception. However, while it does have its flaws, I don’t see any deal breakers here. There’s nothing that would really make me hesitate to recommend the product. However, you should be aware of these potential problems.

  • Some people feel that  the plastic piece that holds the ledge in place needs to be stronger. You do need to be careful when handling the plastic piece that adjusts the viewing. However, it can easily be replaced and will still be a lot cheaper than expensive sessions with a chiropractor.
  • Though it’s lightweight, some people still find it heavy. For example It weighs more than the macbook air, which is a downside for some when they are carrying a laptop and heavy law books around with it. That being said, the book stand is very sturdy and your books will  feel secure. It’s a trade off I think is worth making.

The Verdict….

Despite the the minor problems above, I whole-heartedly recommend The Best BookStand Ergonomic to anyone who wants to know how to read with good posture and avoid neck and wrist pain.   1. I like this product. I like the idea and genius behind it. While it is enjoyable to hold a book in one hand to read, it is so nice to read it with a book stand. The plus side of it is we get to have good posture by using it.

    I just wonder – these days, I am going more digital. Are there stands for tablets and phones?

    It will be great for my Mom to have a stand where she can place her phone on and read. It is also because she needs to use the magnifying glass to read. You can imagine how cumbersome it can be when reading articles or text on a phone while using a magnifying glass.

    If there is a stand that she can place a phone or tablet on, she will be able to use the magnifying glass easily and read more comfortably.

    Thanks for showing us how to achieve good posture while reading.With a more balanced posture comes greater blood flow to the brain, more oxygen from being able to breathe more easily and less “brain fog”, allowing you to think and act more clearly. So if nothing else proper posture will make better understand and appreciate reading.

    • Thanks for the question, Rose. Here is what you should do to ensure that after sitting for a long period of time, blood circulation to your legs will continue. You should sit so that your thighs are parallel to the floor and your legs are perpendicular to the floor when you lower them. This is just another way of saying that the front of your seat should not cut off the blood supply in your legs.

    Great post. I think this will help people who read their books sitting down on a chair. However, I adore reading in bed.This is my time to unwind for the day and put all the bad stuff away. In fact, I really like your post about how reading is a form of mediation. That is so true. Reading the right book can be very soothing. Unfortunately, reading in bed can be tough on the neck.

    What I do now is to use at least two pillows behind my back.I place the pillows the long way so my entire back is supported by the pillows, instead of just my head. If I have a couple more pillows, I prop them under my knees and I have a good place for my book. It occurs to me, however, that I might incorporate a book stand to make it even easier and lessen the chance of neck pain.

      I generally discourage people from sitting on their bed to read if they are also taking notes.Sitting on your bed does not provide support for your back so when you lean forward to do homework/ take notes, you’re putting a good deal of stress on your back.  A back injury can happen at any time.  You could be hurt just by moving from your sitting position on your bed to rolling/turning quickly to jump out of bed. If , however, you’re just reading then your suggestions could work.

We learn to embrace each other’s point of view by being exposed to different perspectives. This is the value of reading, and you can’t read while you are in pain. Remember that our bodies are not designed to sit for more than 20-30 minutes, so remember to take quick breaks in between chapters to switch positions, get a drink, or even go to the bathroom.     I’m so glad I ran into your post. I sure can relate to what you’re talking about. This is what usually happens to me.
    When at the computer I start out with good posture, then realize I have hunched over to see the screen, which is too low. So even if I sit in the proper posture and the chair is low my eyes are not level with the screen, therefore I slowly start to hunch over as I read. This post is going to help me a lot. Like I said, it describes what is happening to me.

    Hunching forward can easily result in neck and back pain, especially if you’ve been repeating this bad habit over a long period of time. Keeping your back straight will improve your focus and concentration, and prevent you from being easily distracted. If you’re just reading and not taking notes, I would suggest something like The Book Seat–Travel Pillow. Many readers find it very comfortable for reading while lying in bed because it can mold itself to any shape and sit on any surface you put it on. It can also double as a travel pillow–hence the name. You can check it out here if you wish. As said, this will work if you’re just reading and not taking notes.
