Great review overall! I love running and having this kind of gadget is a blast. I agree on the fact that for a beginner Fitbit is more user friendly and easy to use. It would be great if you could put a link to the Jawbone product in your review. Otherwise, good review

      Hi Vincent,

Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate your suggestion and I sure will put a link to the jawbone product.

      Best,

      Thabo

I always thought the fibit had ruled the fitness tracking gadget industry, but it seems the jawbone could be giving it a run for its money!

I think the jawbone’s look is definitely sleeker and cooler looking. The fitbit however, has the name which somewhat translate to reliability since it’s got a reputation to up hold.

I think I’ll be going with the fitbit.

      Hi Wing,

      Thanks for the feedback.

I think I like the Fitbit also, but I know the Jawbone has its fans. This is why I decided to compare them and let the fans choose.

      Best,

      Thabo

Hey there Thabo, what a great review you have here, I have been looking into getting me a fitness tracker for a while now.
I like the looks of the Fitbit charge HR and the fact that it monitors sleep activity, I don’t think I sleep too well and it would be nice to monitor it and see what’s up. And with the silent alarm would be great, I just hate waking to music or loud noises.
To me, the Fitbit is a far better fitness tracker for the price versus the Jawbone UP3.
    Thanks for this article,
    Kim

      Hi Kim,

Thanks for the feedback and kind words.A lot of people have wondered what the difference is between Fitbit and jawbone, and that’s why I decided to review both. You’re welcome to come back to my site any time.

      Best,

      Thabo

Wow really nice review on the Fitbit vs Jawbone. I think I like the Fitbit better. It seems a little easier for me. I really would like to monitor my sleep and how well I sleep but I cant stand anything on my arm while I sleep. I think both are pretty cool though.
    Great review of these products.

Love the side by side comparison. I personally gravitate towards a fitbit. I love that look so sleek and cool. I guess in terms of reliability the fitbit wins.

Beginners would for sure benefit from your recommendations on taking the fitbit. The review was great! Do you think the jawbone will ever be a stronger contender?

    • Thabo Nkomo

      Hi Michael,

The Jawbone has its fans, and one even suggested that I put a link to the product. The original review only had the link to Fitbit because that’s what most people know. I think the Jawbone has the potential, as more people become aware of it, of being a stronger contender. That said, I think Fitbit will have the edge for a long time.

It’s great to see more of these comparison reviews. Fitness trackers are definitely trending right now, and more of my friends are getting into it. This’ll help them make better choices.

I would probably go with the Fitbit Flex Activity sleep wristband as the vibrating alarm function really appeals to me. Apart from its other beneficial functions, and intuitive Android apps.

    Great review!

    • Thabo Nkomo

      Hi Farhan,

Thanks for the big thumbs up! Though I had fun reviewing both products, I think that Fitbit has the advantage and and brand loyalty. That said, your friends are welcome to check the review anytime.

Interesting review. I have been looking at Fitbit range for awhile, and I am most likely goin for it. I like the how it looks – I want something that I can wear like an accessory instead of looking like a fitness tracker on my wrist. Thanks for sharing the benefits of the watch in an easy to read list.

  8. Tessa

I have yet to try the jawbone. I love my FitBit HR though. The only feature I am missing from fitbit is a movement reminder that will vibrate at you when you have not gotten up and walked in a while. I love how the FB HR acts as a watch and tells you good morning without being an entire wrist computer. (I am against seeing text messages on my wrist. I want to be left alone when I workout!) Thank you so much for this article! I was unsure whether to buy a new fitbit or broaden my horizens and you reminded me of my love of fitbit! Thanks again!

    • Thabo Nkomo

      Hi Tessa,

A lot of people have questions about whether to buy Fitbit or go for Jawbone, that’s why I decided to compare the two. I am glad that you enjoyed the review. Spread the word to others.

  9. Nikola

Hey Thabo. I like that you did a review if two products, instead of one. It is a time saver. For a long time I have been thinking about buying one of those wristbands, and now I made up my mind. Both are good, since I have to choose, I choose fitbit. I like that it can even measure your sleep and that it is also waterproof. No worries there. Tell me, is the other band also waterproof?

    • Thabo Nkomo

      Hi Nikola,

Thanks for the feedback. The Jawbone is not waterproof. It’s only Splash- proof. Meaning a little bit of water won’t damage it, but a lot might. If you want something that’s waterproof, go with Fitbit. Feel free to go back to my review and use the link.

I am now in the market for a monitor like this. I have been looking at the fitbit, but I really like the design of the jawbone. I just really like the look of it. I am not sure if you made my decision easier or harder. I think in my case it, I will be getting the jawbone, mostly because of the overall styling.
    Thanks for the great review!

      Hi Marc,

      Thanks for the feedback.

Both fitness trackers have a lot to recommend, and that’s why I did the review. Feel free to use the link on the review.

Both the Fitbit Charge HR and the Jawbone UP3 are great and comfortable. But I think the lack of a smart alarm system in the Fitbit charge is really terrible. I still don’t understand why they decided not to implement this.
UP3 has the smart alarm and many other new features as it automatically detects sleep and measures your resting heart during the day. So, I’m thinking of going for UP3.

    • Thabo Nkomo

      Hi Martins,

Both fitness trackers have a lot of fans. That’s why I wanted to do a review that showcased the qualities of each.

  12. Carla

This has been a great read for me as was contemplating on buying a Fitbit only after a few of my friends have them and there was a advert on TV yesterday.
I did not even know “jawbone” existed and after reading the review (which was great)I’m unsure of what to go for.
    Thanks for the information

    • Thabo Nkomo

      Hi Carla,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I think both Fitbit and Jawbone do a great job, but I would go with the one that you are more familiar with. In your case that would seem to be Fitbit. In any case, you’re welcome to check back on the review before making a final choice. Feel free to use the link.

  13. Jeremy

Great review on the Fitbit and Jawbone. To me the Fitbit sounds like it would be a better fit for me. I like the fact that it can also be worn at night when you sleep. Have you tried these out? Which one do you recommend the most based on your research?

    • Thabo Nkomo

      Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for the feedback. Both are top of the line fitness trackers, but based on the research that I have done I would go with Fitbit. Feel free to use the link.

  14. Blame

I have a friend who jogs 5 miles everyday. I don’t know about you but that sounds like a lot to me. He is also a big fan of fitbit. It’s simply amazing to him. He also shows me his progress on his iphone. I always thought wow, it really tracks everything. He sleeps with it also. As for jawbone, I have never heard of it. It seems to be a lot pricier. I will tell my friend to stick to his fitbit for now. It’s much nicer.

    • Thabo Nkomo

      Hi Blame,

It’s nice to hear from you again. I think both Fit bit and Jawbone have a big following, but many people are confused as to which is best for them. This is why I did the the review. I’m glad it helped you make a choice as to which one you liked best.

  15. Edna L. Spaulding

most of my friends in fitness class like fitbit, i have been thinking of buying one to. with the aid of your review i think i should just go for jawbone. not minding the cost.

    • Hi Edna,
UP3 has the smart alarm and many other new features as it automatically detects sleep and measures your resting heart during the day. I suspect that this why it’s more expansive than Fitbit. So, the Jawbone may be the right call for you. Be sure to come back and let us know how you like it.

  16. Davina O. Herrera

i wonder what makes jawbone more expensive, i will go for fitbit anyway, Thanks for the review, it was very helpful.
